Busy Girl

Those two words about sum up my 18 month old daughter. The past two days have been interesting to say the least. Yesterday I was bringing out some things to the car and left Melonie in the house where it was warm. Now I was only gone 2 minutes tops and as I am heading back to the door I notice it is closed. Well out of habit I always lock the door after I open it so that when we walk out to the car I can just pull it shut since I am usually carrying Melonie, her bag, my purse, etc. So this time I didn't have Melonie with me, and she had closed the door (Mark later told me that he asks her to close the door behind him when he leaves so she was just doing what she had learned). Fortunately I had brought my purse out to the car with me along with the other things I was carrying out and was able to let myself back in.
Which bring us to today. I went downstairs to do some laundry and left Melonie playing upstairs. As I came back upstairs I noticed the door was closed. As I looked through the glass I saw Melonie in the snack drawer with it wide open looking for something to eat. This would have been a cute sight if it weren't for the fact that when the snack drawer is open, the basement door cannot open! So I open the door the 3 inches I was able to and try to coax Melonie to close the drawer so Mama can get in the house. She looks at me and then says "ok" and tries to close the drawer. Well she had pulled so many things up and out while she was looking that she couldn't get the drawer closed. She turns and says "stuck". Well now we are both stuck! Me in the basement and her with the drawer. I go outside through the mudroom and walk around the house to the garage, get the spare key (thankfully it was there) and let myself back in the house through the back door. Melonie jumps about three feet in the air when I walk in the kitchen behind her and then proceeds to sign that she wants a snack no worse for the trauma she has just put me through. Oh the fun we have while Rebekah is at school....

Upside Down

This piece is a powerful reading, the words scrolling up as they are audibly read. The reading starts from the perspective of a person who is clearly a non-believer full of doubt telling of his "reality" of Christmas. It seems to come to an end there. But then Jesus turns it all upside down. The very same reading is read once again from bottom to top proclaiming the glory of the birth of the Christ.

Look Up

THE BUZZARD:
If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.

THE BAT:
The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash. !

THE BUMBLEBEE:
A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.

PEOPLE:
In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up!

Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up!

Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in our Creator who loves us.

It's Only A Quarter...

Several years ago, a preacher from out-of-state accepted a call to a church in Houston , Texas Some weeks after he arrived, he had an occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change.

As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, 'You'd better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it.' Then he thought, 'Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as 'a gift from God' and keep quiet.'

When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, 'Here, you gave me too much change.'

The driver, with a smile, replied, 'Aren't you the new preacher in town? I have been thinking a lot lately about going somewhere to worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change.. I'll see you at church on Sunday.'

When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, held on, and said, 'Oh God, I almost sold your Son for a quarter.'

Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read. This is a really scary example of how much people watch us as Christians and will put us to the test! Always be on guard and remember that you carry the name of Christ on your shoulders when you call yourself a 'Christian'.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Found Pennies

You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.
Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house. The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.
As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment. Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny. He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?
Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value. A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?
'Look at it.' He said. 'Read what it says.' She read the words 'United States of America'
'No, not that; read further.'
'One cent?'
'No, keep reading.'
'In God we Trust?'
'Yes!'
'And?'
'And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!

FINALLY Home!

Well, after almost a week of waiting Zak is finally home from Iraq. His flight was delayed several times due to sandstorms. We are so thankful to have him back on US soil after serving 15 months (including 2 birthdays) in Iraq. I am so proud of my "little" brother, although he really isn't the little peanut he used to be. He has been lifting weights to help relax and is in great shape! My mom said he had the biggest smile on his face when he got off the plane. I wish I was there to welcome him home.

Thank you to all the men and women serving our country and fighting for our freedom all over the world.

Getting Started

Well, after writing different posts on various sites for each of my girls as well as on Facebook, I decided I should start a blog to have everything together in one place. This blog is dedicated to all of you who help in the making of memories in my life. Hope you enjoy the journey with me! :-)
